Supported Independent Living in Newcastle

Prospect Hill provides NDIS Supported Independent Living (SIL) across Newcastle and the wider Hunter region, including Maitland, Cessnock, Medowie, Singleton, Port Stephens and Raymond Terrace. We support people with disability to live as independently as possible in quality homes, with the level of care that suits their goals.

SIL is help with daily tasks delivered in a shared home setting — things like personal care, cooking, medication, household tasks, and community access. Prospect Hill delivers 24/7 on-site support in our SIL homes for people who need full assistance to live as independently as possible.

How SIL funding works in Newcastle

SIL is funded from the Core Supports budget in your NDIS plan. It pays for the support staff in your home — personal care, help with daily tasks, community access and overnight support — not for the house itself. Your provider prepares a roster of care showing the support hours shared across the home and any 1:1 time you need, and the NDIA uses it when deciding your SIL funding.

SIL, SDA and rent: who pays for what

• SIL — NDIS funding for the support workers in the home.
• SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) — separate NDIS funding for specially designed housing, only for participants who meet SDA eligibility. Many SIL homes are not SDA.
• Rent, food and bills — paid by the participant, usually from the Disability Support Pension.

Overnight support

Overnight support is either active (a worker is awake all night) or a sleepover (a worker sleeps on site and gets up when needed). Which one a home uses depends on the residents' support needs and is set out in the roster of care.

We accept NDIA-managed and plan-managed participants, and work closely with your LAC or planner, family, and existing supports to make the transition smooth.
